These Trader Joe’s Buffalo Tofu Sandwiches are filled with crispy buffalo tofu and the most delicious vegan slaw! The perfect vegan sammie!

Ever since Trader Joe’s came out with their own buffalo sauce, I knew I needed to make a recipe with it. I honestly think it is better than Frank’s! And these Trader Joe’s Buffalo Tofu Sandwiches are the ultimate way to try out this buffalo sauce. The tofu is seasoned and fried until crispy and then drizzled with buffalo sauce. The slaw is tossed in a pre-made vegan dressing from Trader Joe’s. And the whole thing is brought together on a toasted bun. Such a yummy sandwich!

steps
step 1: make the tofu
For other recipes I would say you can bake tofu instead of frying, but for this one, I would say frying is the way to go!

Combine the corn starch and dry seasonings in a shallow bowl and mix. Dredge each piece of tofu in the corn starch mixture and set aside – the great thing about using high protein tofu is that you don’t need to press it AND you don’t need to add any liquid to dredge it. The corn starch should just stick.
Add enough oil to a skillet to coat the bottom and heat over medium heat. Once hot, add the tofu and cook until browned on both sides (working in batches if needed). Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel lined plate to allow excess oil to drain.

step 2: make the slaw
The slaw for these sandwiches is great! It has a creamy dressing, a little spice and lots of tang.
While the tofu is cooking add the slaw mix, jalapeño & green onion to a bowl. Drizzle over as much of the dressing as you want and add vinegar to taste. Toss until coated and set aside.

step 3: assemble & serve
I like to toast the buns before assembling so the bread can hold up to all of the filling.

You also need to sauce up the tofu. Pour over as much of the buffalo sauce as you want and coat all sides.
To assemble, add 2 blocks of tofu to each roll. Top with the slaw, a little more creamy dill dressing and cilantro. Slice in half and enjoy!
These sandwiches are everything! Crispy, tangy, spicy & delicious!

tips & tricks
If you don’t have a Trader Joe’s all of the ingredients can be subbed with something from your local store except for the dressing. I would use my vegan Caesar dressing recipe instead!
Super firm tofu (also called “high protein tofu”) does not need to be pressed because it is so dense. If you use firm or extra firm tofu instead, you will want to thoroughly drain & press it before cooking it.
I like to toast the bread in the oven under the broiler.
When adding buffalo sauce to the tofu, you can either add the tofu blocks to a bowl, pour over the buffalo sauce and toss OR just drizzle some buffalo sauce over the blocks while they are resting on the plate.
