Crispy Refried Bean Tacos
These Crispy Refried Bean Tacos have a simple refried bean & green chile filling. They are served with avocado & chipotle mayo.
Tacos are always a good idea! And these vegan tacos are not only totally easy, they are also really tasty! The filling is a simple combo of refried beans, dry seasonings & green chiles. The beans are added to small flour tortillas and fried until crispy. Served with a simple avocado salsa and chipotle mayo. Perfect weeknight dinner or party platter.
How to Make the Bean Filling
To make the filling grab a can of your favorite refried beans – be sure to check the ingredients to make sure they are vegan-friendly. Add the beans to a bowl with a can of green chiles, smoked paprika, cumin, chili powder, salt & lime juice.
Combine the bean mixture and give it a taste. You can adjust the seasonings to your liking – or add some hot sauce if you want some spice.
How to Assemble
When it comes to the tortillas for these tacos, I prefer flour. You could also use corn, just be sure you are using small tortillas. I got mine at Trader Joe’s, but any steet-sized tortillas will do.
Add a couple of tablespoons of filling to each tortilla and gently close them. Repeat until all of the ingredients are used up.
Heat some oil in a skillet over medium heat. No need to add a lot of oil – just enough to coat the bottom of the skillet. Working with a few tacos at a time, add them to the oil and cook until browned on both sides. Remove the tacos from the skillet and place them on a paper towel lined plate.
How to Serve
You can really serve these with any of your favorite taco toppings – shredded lettuce, hot sauce, salsa, guac. But I whipped up some avocado salsa & chipotle mayo to serve these with.
Layer up the tacos with the toppings & sauces and dig in. These vegan tacos are best served right away while still crispy, but they can also be reheated in the air fryer or oven.

Oh sorry – I read the blog now and see an air fryer can be used.
Made these for dinner this week and they were delicious. Will definitely be making them again. I almost always have the ingredients on hand so that makes it super convenient.
Made this for myself and my carnivore boyfriend. They were SO easy and so good! We both loved them. Served with store bought guacamole, Spanish rice, and the recommended recipe for chipotle mayo!
So dang simple but so amazing! Added to my weeknight dinner list.
Super delicious. We had these wonderful tacos last night. They really hit the spot. You took simple ingredients and turned them into a super easy dinner. We paired them with your chipotle mayonnaise and avocado salsa. We made homemade Spanish rice as well. Thank you again.
