Today we are making a fun and simple vegan holiday dessert – Chocolate Cookie Butter Twists! If you’re like me and your baking skills are minimal, then these are for you! They only require 5 ingredients and no specific baking skills. They are also super kid-friendly! I tested out a batch of these with my nephew a couple weeks ago and he made them all on his own…with just a little direction from me 😉

Step One: Grab Your Ingredients

The ingredient list for this recipe is short and sweet. Here is what you need:

  • puff pastry – thawed
  • cookie butter
  • chocolate chips – melted
  • vegan butter – melted
  • powdered sugar – for serving

The only thing you want to remember before starting this recipe is thawing the puff pastry. I usually do this by placing the frozen dough on my kitchen counter for 40-60 minutes.

Step Two: Assemble

I like to lay out a piece of parchment paper to assemble on. This keeps the dough from shifting around too much.

Unfold the puff pastry on the parchment paper and roll it out slightly with a rolling pin. To one half, spread out the cookie butter. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cookie butter. Fold the empty half of puff pastry over the filling and press the edges to seal.

Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into 12 strips – I like to score the dough before actually making the cut, that way you know you’re getting 12 equal pieces.

Twist each strip a couple of times and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with melted vegan butter and place in the oven, on the center rack, for 20 minutes.

Step Three: Serve

You’ll know they are done when the dough is slightly browned and your house smells amazing!

Transfer the the twists to a platter and dust them with powdered sugar.

Tips & Tricks

To melt the chocolate chips I place them in a microwave-safe container and microwave for 2-ish minutes, stirring every 30 seconds.

When looking for vegan chocolate chips, semi-sweet are usually safe. Just be sure to check the ingredient list for dairy before purchasing.

The cookie butter can be a little hard to spread at first. Just be patient and take your time to spread it to the edges.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 1/2 cup cookie butter
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips melted
  • 1 tablespoon vegan butter melted
  • powdered sugar for serving

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Unfold the puff pastry on a piece of parchment paper on the counter. Roll it out slightly with a rolling pin. To one half, spread out the cookie butter. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cookie butter. Fold the empty half of puff pastry over the filling and press the edges to seal.
  • Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into 12 strips. Twist each strip a couple of times and place on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with the melted butter and place in the oven on the center rack for 20 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven, dust with powdered sugar and serve.
