This 5-Ingredient Tomato Basil Penne is a quick, one-pot dinner! The cherry tomatoes & dairy-free cream make the best pasta sauce!

I am just days/weeks away from meeting my little baby and I have to say that being in the kitchen is getting harder. Like, physically, I’m at the waddle stage. So, recipes like this 5-Ingredient Tomato Basil Penne are a must! Literally a handful of ingredients, one pot and super delicious. Perfect when you want something homemade, but don’t want to (or can’t) be in the kitchen for very long.
Here’s what you need
Ingredients
- penne
- cherry tomatoes
- garlic
- non-dairy cream – unsweetened
- fresh basil
- there’s also a little oil, salt & pepper, but we don’t count those in the 5 ingredients!
Equipment
- a stock pot or deep sauce pan!

Steps
Step 1: Cook the Pasta
Since we are cooking everything in one pot, we want to start by cooking the pasta.
When it comes to the type of pasta you use, you can really use anything. You will obviously just want to adjust the cook time depending on what you use.

Step 2: Make the Sauce
The sauce for this recipe is simple, but still packs in so much flavor. It is crazy what you can do with some tomatoes and garlic.
Add the oil to the pot over medium heat. Add the tomatoes and cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently – you can partially cover and/or lower the heat as needed to avoid splattering. The tomatoes should be burst after 10 minutes.

Step 3: Finish & Serve
Add the garlic, salt & pepper to the pot and gently press the tomatoes to release their juices. Toss for 2 minutes or until the garlic is tender. Add the pasta back to the pot with the cream & basil. Toss until the pasta is coated. Taste and adjust as needed.

This pasta is so fresh, so tasty, and sooooo easy! Definitely one you can add to your weekly rotation!

Tips & Tricks
I know finding non-dairy cream that doesn’t have a funky flavor can be hard to find. My favorites are Trader Joe’s heavy whipping cream or Ripple non-dairy cream.
You can definitely add more things to this pasta. Throw in some spinach at the end for extra greens. Some vegan parmesan on top would be great too!
