Instructions

  • Cut the tofu into 16 sticks. Add the blackened seasoning to a shallow bowl. Dredge the tofu in the seasoning and place on a plate.
  • Add all of the sauce ingredients to a bowl and mix to combine. Taste and adjust the seasonings as needed. Set aside.
  • Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the tofu and cook until browned, flip and brown the other side (approx. 3 minutes per side). Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel lined plate to remove the excess oil.
  • Heat the tortillas. To assemble, add avocado, cabbage and tofu to each tortilla. Drizzle on some of the sauce and serve with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • Some of the blackened seasoning will come off while frying. This is ok and will keep the tofu from being too salty. If you plan to cook the tofu a different way (oven or air fryer) then I would use less blackened seasoning and just sprinkle it on the tofu.
  • If you are sensitive to salt I would make the blackened seasoning from scratch. Store-bought blackened seasoning can be extra salty.
  • If you want to make the blackened seasoning from scratch: combine 2 tablespoons smoked paprika, 1 tablespoon cayenne powder, 1 tablespoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon sea salt, ½ teaspoon dried basil, ½ teaspoon dried oregano, ½ teaspoon dried thyme.
